Encapsulation

There was a moment the other day which perfectly encapsulated the Teabagger movement for me.

Allow me to paint the scene. A governor, using cutbacks as his excuse, deprives many public sector employees of their collective bargaining power--except, of course, those whose unions had endorsed his own candidacy.

Hardest hit were the teachers, and protests began immediately.  While it's true that cutbacks are sometimes necessary, and while it's also true that not everything that a union wants is necessarily the best idea, the right of workers to bargain collectively is of tantamount importance to protecting the little guy from those more powerful, be they corporations or the government.

The Tea Party, those stalwart champions of the working man against the dread specter of Big Government, leaped into action--and launched a counter-protest, on the side of Big Government against the working man.

And then, in the midst of their protest against teachers, I saw this:

I won't spoil its perfection with further words.

  1. Your right.
Ahcckkk! It's like nails on a chalkboard.
But seriously, the hypocrisy is rage engendering.

  2. It looks like whoever created that sign didn't have a very good spelling teacher.

In all seriousness, the dissonance between Tea Party rhetoric and their response to these protests is jarring.
