In which Christianist Xenophobes Shoot Themselves in the Foot

Ah, so.  Oklahoma bans Sharia law.  And International Law--and never mind that much of "international law" is actually codified through treaties, about which the Constitution states:
This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.
Oops.

The actual text of the measure states, among other things, that:
The courts shall not look to the legal precepts of other nations or cultures.
Leaving aside the potentially thorny question of relations with the Indian tribes living in Oklahoma, isn't there a far more obvious problem, at least from the perspective of the Christianists who were behind the measure?

Kids, this is your brain on xenophobic bullshit.

  1. Right-wingers really need to come to terms with their fear of Islam. Instead of fretting over imaginary threats from Sharia, they should be focusing on the country's actual problems.
