Anti-Gay: the New Pro-Life

In the wake of the recent suicide of an LGBT youth, we're left with ... what?  Sadness, guilt, questions.

Who was responsible for this?  The bullies, certainly.  The criminally incompetent and monstrously uninterested administration, as well.  But they didn't act alone.  Nothing occurs absent context, and the context here is one of a vicious nationwide campaign against homosexuals.  They are abominations, they are destroying marriage, they are upsetting God's plans, they are undermining society, they are diseased--oh, but we love them, don't we?  It's not the sinner we hate, it's the sin.

Anti-gay is the new pro-life: filthy quisling demagogues who back away in feigned collective horror whenever their unwashed followers act out the logical consequences of their propaganda.

Abortion clinics are like concentration camps!  Oh, no!  We didn't mean for you to go French resistance and blow one up!

Gays choose to be diseased abominations attacking the foundations of society!  Oh, no!  We didn't mean for you to drive gay children to suicide!  Or kick them out of their homes!

Despicable.  Utterly despicable.  As if that weren't enough, the anti-gay lobby is actually using the increased suicide rate among LGBT individuals as an argument against homosexuality.

In light of that, words simply fail me.  These are evil people.  Horribly, wickedly, desperately evil people.

We may yet hope for their redemption, but in the meantime, they have to be opposed.  Vote against the candidates they like, donate to organizations that oppose them, counter their propaganda, fight for what's right, but most of all, reach out and tell people it's okay, that they're loved, that it gets better.  The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice--the truth of love, tolerance, and acceptance will one day conquer the lie of repression, hatred and self-loathing.

  1. That anyone could remain unmoved in the face of all these youth suicides shocks me. We need to support LGBT youth and stand against the homophobes, NOW, to prevent further tragedy.
